Women From Foster Care
March is Women’s History Month. It is a great time to amplify voices of women, and inspire the future of girls, especially those who happen to come out of foster care.
Here are glimpses into three women’s stories.
Simone Biles
Simone entered foster care after her biological mother struggled with alcohol and drug problems. After some years in and out of foster care, her grandparents adopted her. Simone went on to win multiple Olympic gold medals, becoming the most medaled U.S. gymnast ever.
Tiffany Haddish
Tiffany Haddish is known from movies like Girls Trip but is also an accomplished author. She talks about the challenges of living with her mother’s mental illness and her struggles in foster care which include facing sexual abuse in her memoir, The Last Black Unicorn. As a teen she found her passion for performing when a social worker encouraged her to attend a comedy camp.
“We may encounter many defeats but we must not be defeated.” – Maya Angelou
Keyshia Cole
