AACASA Awarded Safeway Foundation We Care Grant

Updated 2/23/2019

The employees of Safeway’s Eastern Division recently awarded 23 Safeway We Care grants to 23 area organizations. Under We Care, $10,000 was awarded to Anne Arundel CASA, Inc.

Mr. Tracy Bloedel, General Manager of the Safeway Distribution Center in Upper Marlboro recommended Anne Arundel County CASA, Inc. for the grant. Mr. Bloedel’s wife, Linda Bloedel, is a CASA volunteer.

AACASA will use their Safeway Foundation We Care grant to increase their capacity to serve more children in foster care who would otherwise not receive a CASA volunteer.

About the Safeway Foundation

Safeway Foundation, part of Albertsons Companies Foundation, supports causes that impact our customers’ lives and strengthens our neighborhoods. Carefully directing contributions, we work in collaboration with local organizations and seek to improve the quality of life in the communities we serve. We take pride in ensuring that the vast majority of funds we raise stay in our local communities and that our giving reflects what is important to our customers and employees.

We focus on giving locally in the areas of hunger relief, cancer research and treatment, education, veterans and helping people with disabilities.

For the past 21 years, AACASA has educated and empowered diverse community volunteers who ensure each child’s needs remain a priority in an overburdened child welfare system.

When the state steps in to protect a child’s safety because the people responsible for protecting them have not, a judge appoints a trained CASA volunteer to make independent and informed recommendations that help the judge decide what’s best for the child. CASA is central to fulfilling society’s most fundamental obligation by making sure a qualified, compassionate adult will fight for and protect a child’s right to be safe, to be treated with dignity and respect, and to learn and grow in the security of a loving family.
